Full Marathon holland Road to 100FM Training

24 March 2019, Sunday, 42.195 km Amstelveen Lentemarathon

#roadtoRotterdam

This is the final long run before tapering begins. The legs and heart felt good for the first 15km despite a 10km Z4 race the day before. We clocked in a pace of 540 for the first few km before mindfully adjusting it lower to a 550 pace. I thought the ongoing (left) quadriceps soreness may hamper this i.e. more walking/ jogging than running. Quite expectedly so, post km 18, i started slowing down by at least 10 sec per km, and discomfort sets in. The bunion on my left toe started reacting and continue stitching until the end of km 35. Well, on hindsight, i should have stick to the usual ONE pair of running socks… doh. I had to put on two pairs of running socks to keep my toe warm :(. I still struggle to find the most comfortable pair of running shoes for wide feet, and one with bunion, although i have now sized up to accommodate the swell sometimes, during the long continuous run (>28km). Brooks Ghost 11 and Hoka One One Tracer is what i am currently using, definitely an improvement but not (yet) perfect. Maybe perfection equates to “no-running” and this imagination must be dispelled…bah…I i just have to get used to discomfort on long runs.
