10km Maintenance Malaysia Race road running

2 November 2019, Garmin Run 10km

I just landed 2 nights ago. I was excited to test my performance in this hot humid weather after an 8 month hiatus. I had a target in mind. At least 48 min perhaps?

51.25 min! Crushed!

2 mistakes. Firstly, too ambitious! Secondly, i forgot about hill training!

The elevation gain was 50m, small in fact, but relatively higher than a 1-5m elevation in the flat Holland. The jet lag, and the heat affected the timing. Flag off was at 7am, but the heat got to me. I remember running in this weather, i would always carry a bottle of water to pour it over my head to cool it down, but given the short distance i have ignored it.

Organisation was less than expected. There were multiple distances, from FM to 10km, and there were no signages for the 10km run. At one point, i think i lost 20 seconds as i took a left turn (repeat a loop) rather than making a u-turn to the finish line. It was only after i saw the distance on my watch (already >9km) that i realised that the left turn did not make any sense. I lost the momentum after that and was taken over by the first runner up.

Nonetheless, good to be racing in Malaysia once again! And meeting old friends!

Much contention in the 10km results, as

Met an old friend Suzana at the finish line! I definitely meet more friends in a run event. Love the camaraderie.

Mey Yoon, Eidan and Joelyn. Eidan did a FM with a time of 2.49. Malaysia great, and a coach who runs the SAC group.
