17 November 2018, Ironman 70.3 Relay, Langkawi Malaysia

Team relay is great fun. We are the Team Thirteen Pack. Who coined it? Well, we expect nothing less from Jan Brinkhorst. Haha… So the story goes, that Shauqie and i supposedly claim the 6-pack (abdominal), and Jan with that 1-pack (happiness), which when add together makes us a “Thirteen”. Shauqie as the swimmer, and Jan as the biker, and me the runner.

A sporting friendship that lasts a lifetime over a course of 5.23 hours. A great way to bond with friends whom we meet so little of, yet share this much in common.

The weather…

I am the runner with the privilege of basking through the scorching afternoon sun on that day.  caption
The race itself…

There is this silent pressure of responsibility towards the team. As the runner in the final leg, the pressure of maintaining the team’s position became a real challenge after km 16. The heat and inconsistent running pace (went too fast in the beginning) took hold of me, and we slipped into 2nd position of the mixed category.

The best part of a team relay is… #youwillneverwalkalone
