Europe holland Trail Running Training

9 March 2019, Saturday, Salland Trail, 25km

#RoadtoRotterdam (FM)

Target 1 – 345; Target 2 – 350; Target 3 -359

This is the 2nd week into a structured training program for a sub 4-hour FM. Unlike other routes, the Salland Trail is challenging for its ~200m elevation, and dense roots along the path. Expectedly, falling flat on my tummy was the day’s special.

How do i feel?

The legs feel heavier, but stronger. Recovery time was quicker much to my relief. It just meant that i was able to continue with interval trainings after one day’s rest. My left quadriceps started twitching since after the first 30km run. It does not seem like it is going away (yet)

Will i recommend this race?

Yes. This comes highly recommended. The trail is challenging, with some decent elevation, and i think it is a good variation to an otherwise flatter routes in the Netherlands.

What do i enjoy most about this race?

Besides getting to soak in the swimming pool post race, the food and water post was generous with spreads of chocolates, snelle jelle, sweet pies etc. On the organisation of the race itself, i think it is wise of the organiser to break down the start time of 25km participants into two different timing, an hour apart from another. The trails are sometimes narrow, and with a dispersed crowd, one is able to soak in the raw beauty of what nature can offer.

The 50km and 80km routes cross a small section of the 25km route. While it is motivating (for me) when they pass me, it may be somewhat annoying for them to have to sieve through the 25km “crowd”.

Post race celebration was more than generous with great companies and good food at Stadsbrouwerij Cambrinus Zutphen. We indulged in a set of High Beer for two. One can only imagine what may happen after the end of THE actual race.

This restaurant is special with its own brewery and house beer. The High Beer concoction (20 cl each) was a mix of Liesje, Droge nap, and Rogge vorst. My fav was Droge nap!
