The intent was good. The aftermath was (in what feels like) a week long quad muscle inflammation. (bahh)
Day 1 was a 28km run and hike up and down the Ardennes with elevation gain of ~1000m and river crossing of the Semois in Belgium. This is the 11th edition of the Festival Trail Semois dubbed “probably the most festive trail”, and completely raw nature trail.
There were certain steep uphill slopes, and a steeper descend. Going downhill appear to be more of a challenge for me. I was told that i need to “trust my shoes – that’s what the shoe grips are for”. A lot of the runner “slide” downhill, almost effortlessly.
It was quite a celebration, as people around the village come together to feast and bask in the summer heat. We did not stay the evening post race, but drove to Durbuy to prepare for our next day’s race at Oster. A runcation indeed.
Now, the results. *laugh* Finished in 4.06 uur. The champs clocked in an impressive 2.33 to 2.52 uur. Hats off! These women are made of steel!
Now, months have passed by, the pain is forgotten, but the experience is cast in stone stored away in my memory bank.
I want to get stronger, and go back there.

The castle where participants gathered in the earlier editions.
