I have plateaued. Every race seems to consume more effort, but without the PB i expect. Sounds like a “runner-block” syndrome huh.
Gertjan suggested that i try “running a consistent pace” (after years of running a positive split).
4.48/km split was the targeted running pace for a sub 48 min road race. Baby steps.
And yes, i did it! a consistent 4.46/km pace!
The Race
For starter, my heart rate was hovering around 76bpm, a low i have not seen at race start. It usually hovers above 100bpm at race start. Aware that i am not running for a targeted position helped. 🙂
But above all, the most important contributing factor was “Z De Haas”, my trusted pacer. 🙂 We ran a controlled pace, despite moments of doubt (on me) when the right side of my achilles tendon starts to hurt. “Run your own race” as De Haas says. This was the moment when i felt i stayed true to the statement in its literal sense.
At 200m to finish line, De Haas said “Enjoy…” Yes, and i did (truly)!
This run is in many ways a symbolic one. Inching closer to a 45min target. Experiencing a consistent pace. Yes it is different. Not wasted at the end, which gives me hope for improvement. It makes me hunger for more (once again)
